Possible model of Sso10a binding to DNA showing bending in B-DNA necessary to bind the two recognition H3 helices separated by 55 Å and twisted by 83°. The model was built by analogy to the structure of gd-resolvase (GDR) bound to a 34-bp fragment of DNA. The structure of the Sso10a dimer was superimposed onto GDR in the DNA complex structure. The 34-bp DNA was adapted with minor adjustments to dock onto Sso10a. The Sso10a dimer is shown in ribbon-mode while DNA is in space-filling mode. In DNA, carbon atoms are colored grey, nitrogen blue, oxygen red and phosphorus purple.
